You can't corrupt Normal / White Items. You can't corrupt an item that has sockets already. Ethereal items cannot be corrupted. However, you can socket quest a corrupted item. You can upgrade a corrupted item (for instance from normal to exceptional).
=== Corruption Recipe ===
You can corrupt an item only once; "Corrupted" will display on the item once corruption worked.

Some items needs to be upgraded first to get max sockets. For example Skin of the Vipermagi is Serpentskin Armor and its max possible sockets is 2. If you upgrade it to Wyrmhide, max possible sockets is 4.
For more information on Orbs of Corruption and an in-depth look at the possible outcomes [[Orb of Corruption]]

== Description ==

A mysterious orb. It corrupts an item, granting it new properties and, in some cases, even reforging it into a totally new item. It drops randomly from monsters/chests etc. (monsters level 40 or higher)
'''Recipe''': In the Horadric Cube: Orb of Corruption + the item you'd like to corrupt and press the Transmute button twice.

The word "Corrupted" will then appear in red text under the item's description.
Items, with the exception of relics, can be corrupted once only.

Items that have been upgraded (e.g. Normal -> Exceptional -> Elite) can still be corrupted, and vice versa. However, some items may benefit from being upgraded prior to corruption to increase the maximum number of possible sockets obtained by a successful corruption. For example, ''Skin of the Vipermagi'' Serpentskin Armour has a base maximum of 2 sockets, but if upgraded to a Wyrmhide it can have a maximum of 4 sockets. For more information see [[Corrupting for Maximum Sockets]].
* Corrupted items that did not gain sockets can still be socketed through the Larzuk quest, but not the Horadric Cube recipes.

Bolts* When tested in game during season 13, bolt corruption chances were not the same as arrow corruption. Over 30 bolts and 30 arrows were tested. Arrows seemed normal. Bolts never "brick" into a rare and never "cnc", instead the vast majority of bolt corruptions get 5% all res.
